Lynn Nolan, from the Peak District, has made an entire model village out of fruitcake.

The pensioner, 63, spent three months crafting everything from miniature pints in the local pub to cups and saucers in her tasty depiction of Eyam, Derbyshire.

Ms Nolan constructed her re-creation of the village out of 54 whisky soaked fruitcakes, which were baked by generous locals.

Nine litres of whisky

Now, Ms Nolan’s edible model village has been put on display in the Church of St Lawrence in Eyam, which sits snugly in the Derbyshire Dales, for a six-week exhibition.

Included in the design is the village pub, shop, manor house, and even the Bakewell & Eyam Community Transport minibus.

Each cake will be auctioned off in January as part of a charity drive. Ms Nolan hopes to raise funds for a community bus service.

“Basically it’s fruit cake,” Ms Nolan, who finished every cake with rolled icing herself, told BBC East Midlands.

“I’m relieved it all got here in one piece. It was taking up so much space at home. I couldn’t see anywhere for cake.”

She added: “I like messing around, fiddling around. I enjoy doing it and it’s for a good cause.”

Ms Nolan, a grandmother of four, used nine litres of whisky, 608 eggs, 66lb of butter, 73lb of flour, 12 jars of apricot jam, and 462lb of icing to forge the display.

Fundraising push

She has hidden LED lights in each cake so the village is illuminated at night.

The retired florist lives in nearby Youlgreave, near Bakewell, with husband Paul, 65, who is also retired.

Ms Nolan said she was approached by residents in Eyam after she recreated her own village three years ago to raise funds for a church roof repair.

In 2016, the amateur baker and her fellow villagers made 35 fruitcakes to build Youlgreave. Then, she made everything from the village butcher to the church, hotel to the local Co-op.

“The icing alone took 387 hours,” said Ms Nolan, who suffered a shoulder injury because she spent so long kneading marzipan.

“In the end I had little old ladies cutting up bricks and gravel for me and another helped me with the marzipan because my shoulder became so sore.”
