Jason Plato – #Petrolheads
Jason Plato is a giant of British motorsport, the single most successful driver in the British Touring Car Championship. Despite early success, Plato’s single-seater career faltered and he found himself racing in the one-make Renault Spider series, where he put in a championship winning performance. But even that didn’t guarantee progression and he had to door-step team boss Frank Williams to get a foot in the door with the works Renault touring car team. Persistence paid off, Plato securing a drive for 1997 and he has competed in all but two seasons since, racking up two championships and a record 94 race wins. He’s also a director of the prestigious British Racing Drivers Club, involved in developing new talent, a businessman and TV presenter. Only Motors met Jason at home in Oxfordshire to find out about the highs and lows of his career and what he has in the pipeline.
